If there was one clear theme at this year’s ASCRS/ASOA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, it was this:

AI is no longer the future—it’s the now.

And Vital Interaction was proud to be right at the center of that conversation.

As a strategic partner of the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), we spent the weekend surrounded by forward-thinking providers, practice leaders, and innovators, all looking for one thing—real, practical applications of AI that deliver results. At Vital Interaction, that’s exactly what we brought to the table.

AI in Action: Practical Solutions for Ophthalmology

At ASCRS/ASOA 2025, it was clear that conversations around AI are shifting from exploration to execution. Ophthalmology leaders aren’t just asking what’s possible—they’re ready to adopt tools that ease staff workload, streamline operations, and personalize care in a meaningful way.

Vital Interaction’s solutions were highlighted as practical, real-world examples of how AI can be meaningfully applied in ophthalmology practices today:

AI-Powered Provider Videos

In a busy ophthalmology practice, maintaining a personal connection with patients—especially before and after appointments—can be a challenge. That’s where AI-generated provider videos are gaining traction. With just a one-time recording, providers can create a digital version of themselves that can then be used to generate countless personalized video messages for different appointment types, follow-ups, or educational moments—all powered by AI. These videos help reinforce trust, boost preparedness, and keep patients engaged throughout their care journey, without requiring extra time from providers or staff.

AI-Powered Referral Manager

Managing referrals is one of the most critical—and often most time-consuming—workflows in ophthalmology. By combining fax-parsing technology with intelligent automation, AI is now transforming how practices handle incoming referrals from start to finish. Instead of relying on spreadsheets or manual follow-ups, referrals are automatically identified from faxed documents, electronic forms, or online submissions and placed into a centralized worklist. From there, personalized outreach is triggered—via text, email, or even AI-generated video—engaging patients to get their appointments scheduled quickly and efficiently. Practices can also customize communication cadences to match urgency or appointment type. And just as importantly, referring providers are automatically notified when appointments are scheduled and completed, helping practices close the loop and improve care coordination without additional administrative burden.

The Bigger Picture

It’s easy to talk about AI in theory. But at Vital Interaction, we’re building tools that practices can use today. Our platform is purpose-built to solve real challenges using intelligent automation—whether it’s reactivating at-risk patients, streamlining referral management, running targeted campaigns for diabetic eye exams or cataract follow-ups, or automatically rescheduling no-shows. Every workflow we offer is designed to do what AI does best: reduce manual work, increase efficiency, and support better outcomes.

Not Just Talking AI—Delivering It

The buzz around AI at ASCRS/ASOA was undeniable. From packed breakout sessions to conversations in the Networking Lounge, it was clear that leaders in the ophthalmology space are looking for more than just hype. They want tools they can trust. We were proud to show them what’s possible when AI is built with purpose—and backed by deep healthcare expertise.

Our team—Landon Carsey, Jacob Moore, Brittany Williams, Kayleigh Maqueda, Kurt Buehler, and Ben Chapman—was on-site throughout the week, showcasing our latest solutions, sharing real-world success stories, and engaging in conversations about how Vital Interaction is helping practices move beyond basic automation to truly intelligent, personalized care.

A Strategic Partnership That Makes an Impact

As an ASOA Strategic Partner, we’re committed to supporting practice administrators with tools that not only improve operations but make their lives easier. We were proud to participate in this year’s ASOA Networking Lounge, where conversations centered around staffing shortages, patient retention, and how automation can help fill the gaps. Everything we do—from AI-driven messaging to EHR-integrated analytics—is about meeting practices where they are and helping them scale smarter.

Striking Up Conversations at LA Live

Outside the conference hall, we teamed up with our partner Clearwave to co-host a networking event at Lucky Strike Entertainment in LA Live. From bowling and drinks to great conversations with current customers, prospects, and peers, it was a perfect way to build deeper relationships with the ophthalmology community in a relaxed and fun setting.

What’s Next?

We left ASCRS/ASOA more energized than ever about what’s ahead for ophthalmology. The interest in AI is real—and growing fast. At Vital Interaction, we’re not just part of the AI conversation.

We’re helping to lead it.

If you didn’t get a chance to connect with us in LA, we’d love to show you how our platform is already helping practices increase visit volume, reduce staff workload, and improve the patient journey from end to end.
